Students end the writing year learning about ways authors of various media use persuasion to change the hearts and minds of their reader/viewers. We will touch on Propoganda as a technique but focus mainly on how to convince people using evidence and reasoning.
Questions Writers Ask: What do I care enough about to try to convince others to join my viewpoint? How do I best organize my writing to leverage my strongest ideas ? What sorts of information will get the attention of my audience? What is the role of quoting experts when I am presenting my own ideas? When does media do a better job than text? What reasoning do my opponents use? We will be using a persuasive lens in Science, Social Studies and Math.
